A newcomer to the hiking and outdoor fitness market, British shoe manufacturer Carn is certainly not found lacking when it comes to shoe technology. A rich and illustrious history is apparently not required to enter into the outdoor footwear market at the top end of the market. Don’t mistake this for inexperience, as Carn combine over 80 years of expertise in high performance shoe construction within their team of shoe engineers.

It is recent inventions and innovations for which Carn stands out from the crowd, developing their own technologies in response to the demands of the environment, whilst utilising the tried and tested High-Tec performance materials where additional features are required.

Whilst many breathable shoes are on the market, Carn uses E-vent fabric to provide the most efficient waterproofing system, and promoting evaporation of sweat from the feet. Whilst many fabrics claim to breathe, E-vent provides micro-pores throughout the uppers which allow the direct evaporation of moisture in a single efficient process.  Glam it up as much as you like, however the fact is that the Carn gets the sweat out to keep the feet perfectly dry.

With the feet dry and comfortable, attention is turned to protection and grip. The soles of the shoes feature a 5-piece construction to give maximum support and strength to the boots, whilst maintaining flexibility and giving great shock absorption. A rear foot PU midsole helps to cushion body weight, with an inner high performance stability core for maximum support to the foot. Stepping up a gear, the C2 sole is designed with the trail runner and roadrunner in mind, providing the extra flexibility required for faster running.  An inner stability core helps to maintain the correct posture, rolling the foot forward into the next step.  As the heel comes down, a PORON performance urethane pod absorbs the shock, and cushions the heel, whilst the VMEVA dual density EVA midsole provides maximum comfort. An uTRX traction sole gives the maximum grip whilst keeping the tread unclogged whilst walking.

Smell-protection comes in the form of an AEGIS Microbe shield in the sole to counter the bacterial growth which leads to odour. POLIYOU open cell polyurethane cushions the foot and wicks away moisture with active carbon, also great at absorbing nasty niffs.

The Viper e-Vent model takes the trail and gives it some, and features lightweight stylish, comfortable design. The Stratosphere e-Vent Low is a hardy approach shoe with a more vegan-friendly design utilising synthetic e-vent fibres for a super lightweight stylish shoe capable of performing on the most rugged trails.

For serious trekking capability the StormChaser eV Mid is hard to beat, offering a one piece rubber toe guard, enhanced stability heel cradle, and exceptional multi-terrain grip and stability.

Technology and a drive for perfection give this plucky British newcomer the extra edge in this competitive high performance market and are a name to be reckoned with.
